We’ve had a fantastic summer of taproom events. Mostly great weather meant that our visitors could soak up the evening sunshine, sitting on picnic benches, hay bales and any random chairs we could find, enjoying great beer, food and live music.
But how can we keep people coming on the darker nights when the temperature drops? Not just with blankets.
Cue the first of our ticketed taproom events. Our friends at Streets of India had served up some delicious street food at our taproom back in July, so we invited them to make a return visit to do an Indian banquet night for nearly 50 guests.
What a banging atmosphere. The beer was flowing, as was the wine (from Poulton Hill Estate), and the cider (from Just Pressed, owned by Gloucester rugby player Jake Polledri).
We had three different live music acts, including Chief Beer Officer Nick tickling the ivories, who kept everyone entertained until well after bedtime.
And the food was great. Three courses of dishes including Khatta Dhokla, Gulab Jamun and lots of others you’ve probably never heard of. Not a Tikka Masala to be seen anywhere.
Our incredibly generous guests helped us raise £333 in our raffle to support the Wiltshire Air Ambulance (which had to be called out to one of our events earlier in the year).
We’ve got more ticketed events planned in the run-up to Christmas.
In November we’re hosting a Comedy Night and in December we’ve got a Christmas party featuring one of Terry’s legendary pub quizzes. And although he knows the answer, he won’t be asking which horse won the 1925 Grand National. (P.S. he somehow knows all the winners for the past 97 years).
