It’s the busiest delivery day of the year so far and a very exciting one, as we deliver our first ever keg. The Cricklade Club will become the first venue on the planet to serve CLB Pale Ale on tap.
It's a proud moment as we hand over the keg, our first pump clip and some CLB-branded glasses. Let’s hope the beer goes well.
We miss the first contestant in Ken Bruce’s Pop Master but are confident of beating their score of 18 points. Wooders is “one year out” on Guess The Year, and sadly, we’re all over the Robson & Jerome question. Bruce Springsteen’s birthplace (New Jersey) is the final nail in the coffin – 17 points.
We talk diets and footie as we tick off Minety and Ashton Keynes. The Centurions – Cirencester Town FC – had just lost away to Slimbridge. As a club official, Tel was invited to the after-match buffet. They’d catered for 15 guests but only three turned up. Faced with a mountain of brown carbs, but anxious to save face and not blow the diet, Tel loaded up his pockets with mini pasties which he later handed out to his mates.
We drop off more beer at Curious Wine in Northleach, including the prize from our recent tasting evening, then head off to Bishops Cleeve. We met Dan and Ellie from Bar No.9 at Gloucester Quays market last month. They loved our porter, so now we’re delivering three cases for the first time. It looks a great venue, and we hope this is the start of a beautiful relationship!
Passing Cheltenham racecourse, talk turns to horses and Tel recounts his dream Grand National day in 2019. He won a pile of money on Tiger Roll and the Centurions won away at Totton. Then, at the after-match meat raffle, he won a massive joint of beef. He couldn’t believe his luck because the first prize winner chose two lamb chops instead, and second place picked a chicken.
As we head back to base, Tel talks about his good mate Bob from Cheltenham; they worked together as designers years ago. Bob drank three pints every lunchtime and five pints every day after work – never more, never less. Another legend.
