The thing with being part of a start-up business is that you must be prepared to turn your hand to pretty much anything. Of course, for a project like building the taproom, you have to call on the experts. Builder Ross and his team have been legends in helping us turn CLB headquarters into the venue it is today. And they’re still on site now, extending the brewing platform, sorting out drainage, getting everything ready for the campsite season, and so on.
But when it comes to painting, we’ve got it covered. So, when we decided we wanted to embellish the taproom with some wall art, the team’s creatives got to work.
Our plea on social media for a scaffold tower was answered within hours with offers of help. Local builder Danny put it up for us, took it down, and even finished painting the top of the wall while he was up there!
Danny made clambering up there look so easy, but Terry and Phil were, frankly, cacking themselves on the top platform. However, it enabled them to paint a ginormous kingfisher logo on the main wall, which looks pretty cool.
But we weren’t finished there. We’ve plastered our “Beer. With purpose.” strapline on the wall above the bar. We now have even bigger respect for those hand-painted signwriters because it isn’t easy.
The final, and trickiest, decorating project for this year was a request from Chief Beer Officer Nick to put a brewing process diagram on the wall below the stage. We’d looked at examples in other taprooms and did plenty of Googling, then Designer Dean pulled it together.
It took a few weeks to complete and there are a few wonky lines on it, so don’t look too closely, but we reckon it looks dead smart.
The artwork doesn’t end there. We’ve still got plans to create a gallery space in the taproom to give local artists somewhere to display their work. More news on that to follow soon.
But for now, we hope we’ve made the taproom look a bit more professional and a bit less like a building site. Come and judge for yourselves!
