As Reg asked in Monty Python’s Life of Brian, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Fosse Way, Ermin Street – evidence of their very straight roads is right on our doorstep. But we’ve also got them to thank for laying the foundations of our cider-making heritage. Roman troops brought with them a host of new apple varieties, orcharding techniques and expert knowledge borrowed from their mastery of winemaking. Who knew?
We love beer and that’s what we’re focused on making, but many visitors to our taproom love a drop of the old apples and it’s our mission to please.
With that in mind, when we opened the taproom, we teamed up with Big Jake Polledri (the ex-Gloucester and Italy rugby player) and his Just Pressed company to offer two draft ciders, and they’re going down very well.
Now we’ve gone one step further. In our quest to support local producers, we’ve collaborated with Mates Cider Company, from just down the road in Minety, to launch our own Field Farm Craft Cider. It’s medium dry, sparkling, gluten-free and vegan, and made from a blend of Herefordshire cider apple varieties. It’s good stuff.
This thirst-quenching drop is available in bottles from the taproom and will be just the job for cider lovers on the balmy summer evenings that are surely around the corner.
